Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archeological survey of the proposed Sigman Road widening in Rockdale County from May 10 through May 12, 1994. The project area contains approximately seven miles of road widening, much of it lying in or near the original right-of-way. The survey corridor begins north of Interstate 20 at the intersection of Sigman Road and Covington Highway. The Sigman road continues east crossing Rockbridge Road and Irwin Bridge Road. The road then turns gradually south crossing State Route 20 (Loganville Highway) and State Route 138 (Walnut Grove Highway). The corridor ends approximately 1,000 feet from the intersection of Sigman Road and Covington Highway. The survey located one site, an historic house site, 9Ro99. This site is recommended not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
