Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I Archaeological Survey of the proposed sewer/water line along Interstate 75 in Monroe and Bibb Counties, Georgia. The survey of the approximately 9.7 mile corridor was conducted between June 7 and 9, 1999. An intensive survey near the study area conducted by Southeastern Archaeological Services, Inc. for a proposed combustion turbine facility in 1989 recorded 83 archaeological sites and 32 isolated finds within a mile of the present study area. Of these, 12 were located within the project corridor for the sewer/water line; three of these were relocated during this survey. No new archaeological sites were found, and only a single isolated find was recorded during the survey. It is recommended that none of these sites is eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, and no further study is recommended.
