Abstract

In May 1999, Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted a cultural resources survey of a proposed 1.6 km (I mile) long, 30 meter (100 ft) wide new road corridor near Oakwood, in Hall County, Georgia. Beginning at McEver Road, this corridor spans forest, pastureland, and clearcut before terminating at Thurmond Tanner Road. This survey, conducted for Moore, Bass, and Bibler, Inc., and was undertaken in compliance with federal cultural resources legislation (Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, 16 USC 470, as amended 1992), and cultural resources regulations (36 CFR 800: Protection of Historic Properties). Background research identified no cultural resources within a 0. 8 km (0. 5 mile) radius of the survey corridor. Field survey identified no archaeological or architectural resources within the corridor; however, one structure located nearby was evaluated for potential viewshed impacts. The proposed construction will not impact any significant cultural resources. No further cultural resources investigation of the corridor is recommended.
