Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed U.S. 23/Pleasant Hill interchange on March 22, 2000. The right of way encompasses approximately 1500 feet of U.S. 23 on either side of the intersection with Pleasant Hill Road and approximately 2400 feet of Pleasant Hill Road on either side of the interchange, as well as two areas at the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection that measure approximately 700x600 feet which are proposed on/off ramp construction areas. Additionally, 600 feet of proposed right of way were surveyed for an access road off of Summit Ridge Parkway. No previously recorded archaeological sites were recorded as lying in or immediately adjacent to the study corridors. No archaeological sites were discovered by the survey and no further archaeological study of the proposed interchange is recommended.
