Abstract

On 1 October 1979, a cultural resource assessment was conducted at two locations in Clay County, Georgia. The first of these is at the Sandy Branch Public Use Area. This park is at the northern confluence of the impounded waters of the Chattahoochee River and Sandy Branch. It is on a peninsular extending into Walter F. George Lake. River mile 82 is due west of the park. The UTM coordinates are: Zone 16R, E681405, N3507622. The second location is at Pataula Shores, on the north side of the impounded waters of Pataula Creek where the present Georgia Highway 39 crosses. The property examined is immediately west of the highway right-of-way. River mile 86 miles west of Pataula Shores. The UTM coordinates are: Zone 16R, E684457, N3513909.
