Abstract

In April 2001, Southeastern Archeological Services conducted an intensive archeological survey for a highway and interchange improvement project at Ashford Dunwoody Road and Interstate Highway 285, in northwestern DeKalb County. The project consists mainly of constructing new feeder lanes on the north of a 4.2 km length of I-285 and the reconstruction of two bridges over I-285. Almost all construction will occur within existing disturbed rights-of-way, but some very narrow corridors of new right-of-way will be needed. Archival research showed that no archeological sites or historic structures are recorded in the project area. Field survey failed to encounter any evidence of archeological sites or features in the project area. We conclude that there are no archeological sites in the area of potential effect for the project and that the project should be granted clearance to proceed without further archeological work.
