Abstract

The survey described here was designed to locate and evaluate archeological sites in the area of a bridge replacement project proposed by the Georgia Department of Transportation on the southern border of Georgia. The survey located three archeological sites within the project corridor, which extends into Florida. Of these three sites, two (sites 9LW78 and 8MD198) are large, low density scatters of lithic debris with little or no evidence of settled (intensive) prehistoric occupation. The third (site 9BO12) is a small lithic scatter with no diagnostic artifacts, recommended as ineligible to the National Register of Historic Places. Although the former two sites may contain denser and more informative deposits beyond the proposed APE, we recommend that disturbance of these sites within the APE would not constitute an adverse effect to significant archeological resources.
