Abstract

Cypress Cultural Consultants, LLC conducted an archaeological survey of 3.75 km. (2.3 mi.) of road right-of-way and an elongated 41 ha. (138 acre) tract along Reeves Creek in Stockbridge, Georgia, Henry County. The City of Stockbridge has plans of developing sidewalks and walking trails in these areas as part of a transportation enhancement grant issued by the Georgia Department of Transportation. The survey was conducted in order to locate cultural resources eligible for the National Register of Historic Places that may exist within the project boundaries. Most of the survey area consists of disturbed road right-of-way and the floodplain of Reeves Creek. The project area is surrounded by residential houses, a city park, and the downtown Stockbridge commercial district. Most of the areas along Reeves Creek are unsuitable for residential or commercial development due to the low, wet nature of the terrain. Despite rigorous examination, no historic or prehistoric sites were located within the project boundaries. One isolated find was recorded. Thus, the development of the sidewalks and trails will have no adverse effect to any properties eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
