On November 12, 2002, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. (SAS) archeologically surveyed 37 highway/street intersections in Troup County, most of which are in the county seat of LaGrange (Figure 1). The survey was undertaken to ensure that the Georgia Department of Transportation is in compliance with Federal regulations concerning the disposition and protection of significant cultural resources (National Historic Preservation Act of 1966--as amended). One of the intersections lies wholly or partially within the Broad Street Historic District and 13 of the intersections lie wholly or partially within the LaGrange Commercial Historic District. No archeological sites were discovered, and no further archeological studies are needed at these intersections.
