Abstract

On November 13, 2002, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. (SAS) archeologically surveyed three highway/street intersections in the town of Cairo in Grady County and three intersections in the town of Pelham in Mitchell County, Georgia (Figure 1). The survey was undertaken to ensure that the Georgia Department of Transportation is in compliance with Federal regulations concerning the disposition and protection of significant cultural resources (National Historic Preservation Act of 1966--as amended). Two of the intersections in Pelham lie partially within the Pelham Commercial Historic District. No archeological sites were discovered at any of the six intersections, and no further archeological studies are needed.
