Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of proposed improvements at six road intersections in Coweta County, Georgia. These intersections are the following: Macedonia Road and SR 16, SR 154 and SR 16, SR154 and SR54, Gordon Road and SR 54, Brown Street and SR 16, and Country Club and SR 70. Archaeological field investigations took place on August 14 and 15, 2002. Three historic archaeological sites were found during the survey. One historic site (i.e., 9Cw182), located on the intersection between SR 154 and SR 54, included a prehistoric component with quartz debitage. The other two historic sites (i.e., 9Cw183 and 9Cw184) were located on the intersection between Gordon Road and SR 54. None of the three sites have any research potential and are recommended ineligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. No further archaeological work is recommended at the six intersections. The historic structure survey results for these intersections are presented in a separate document.
