Abstract

The project would consist of the construction of a five-foot wide concrete sidewalk within existing shoulders along the south side of Mt. Vernon Highway from Powers Ferry Road to Lake Forrest Drive. The existing typical section consists of 30" curb and gutter with shoulder widths of 12' wide or greater. The existing bridge over 1-285 has five-foot wide sidewalks and handrails on both sides. Gravity-type retaining walls may be required at various locations to minimize impacts to adjacent properties. Existing signalized intersections would be upgraded as needed to accommodate pedestrian signalization. Three small tracts of additional ROW are required for the project, totaling 0.076 acres. The first measures 0.042 acres and the second measures 0.029 acres. Both are located on the landscaped grounds of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. The third tract, measuring 0.005 acres, is near the intersection of Mt. Vernon Highway and Mt. Vernon Parkway, on private property.
