Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the Thompson Street Alignment Project in January of 2003. The study area is the intersection of Thompson Street, West Forrest Avenue, and SR 92/Dallas Highway. Approximately 300 feet (91.4 m) of Thompson Street will be realigned to intersect with Forrest Avenue rather than Dallas Highway. A cemetery is located east of Dallas Highway, however, the right-of-way will not be expanded on this side so that no graves will be disturbed. New right-of-way will extend approximately 22 feet (6.7 m) west of the edge of pavement along SR 92/ Dallas Highway. The new Thompson Street right of-way is only 40 feet in width, intersecting with Forrest Avenue across from the Elm Street Intersection. Finally, Forrest Avenue will be confined to the existing 40 feet (12.2 m) of right-of-way. No archaeological resources were discovered during this survey, no further study of the project corridor is recommended.
