Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of two road extensions totaling approximately three miles in length and encompassing 150 feet of right-of-way. Over half of the three-mile corridor consisted of new alignment, while the remainder consisted of widening along existing roadways. The survey corridors are located south of the intersection of Interstate 85 and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in Gwinnett County, Georgia and involved the lengthening of McGinnis Ferry Road and Northbrook Parkway. The survey was conducted on March 18th and 19' of 2004. No previously recorded archaeological sites were recorded as lying in or immediately adjacent to the study corridors. The survey discovered no archaeological sites, but one shovel test pit yielded one isolated prehistoric projectile fragment. No further archaeological study of the corridors is recommended.
