A Phase I cultural resources survey of the proposed Riverwood Development site in Bibb, County, Georgia, was conducted to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area, and to assess each resources significance. The study area includes 110 acres adjacent to the Riverwood International Macon Mill (Paper Mill). The study area is located southwest of downtown Macon, adjacent to the Ocmulgee River floodplain. No archeological sites or isolated finds were located during the field survey. Literature review indicates that the project area contains portions of the approximately 13,000 acre Ocmulgee Old Fields Traditional Cultural Property. Adjacent to the project area along the south and east borders is the approximately 4,000 acre Cherokee Brick and Tile Historic District. The undertaking proposed for current study area consists of the construction of approximately 25,279 linear feet (10 rail sidings/spars) of new railroad track alongside existing track within the project area.
