Abstract

In June 2004, Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) performed an intensive cultural resource assessment survey of an approximately 250-acre parcel in Wilkinson County, Georgia, on behalf of Statewide Engineering, Inc. The tract is the proposed location of a recreational hunting lodge, and the goal of the survey was to locate, identify, delineate, and evaluate all cultural resources within the parcel, including prehistoric and historic archaeological sites, as well as historic structures. The cultural resource assessment survey included a pedestrian inspection combined with systematic shovel testing at 30-meter intervals. As a result of the survey, two archaeological sites (9WK104 and 9WK105) were recorded and four isolated finds were documented. No historic structures were encountered on the subject property. Based on the results, it was determined that both 9WK104 and 9WK105 are eligible for NRHP listing and further work or avoidance is recommended for both sites.
