Abstract

During the period of July 29 through September 19, 2002, a Phase I Cultural Resources Survey was conducted of the Wright Army Airfield Joint Use Area II tract, located in the south central section of the Fort Stewart Army Base, Liberty County, Georgia. Seven archeological sites, three isolated finds, and two historic tram roads (linear historic resources) were recorded in the 770-acre (311.85 hectares) project area. Based on these resources, the project area was utilized prehistorically during the Late Archaic and Woodland/Mississippian periods, and historically, in the middle 19th through middle 20' centuries. Three historic structures dating between 1880 and 1940 were identified within the project's Area of Potential Effects. All of the cultural resources recorded during the survey are recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
