Abstract

Staff of the Office of the State Archaeologist, housed in the Historic Preservation Division of Georgia Department of Natural Resources, conducted an intensive archaeological survey for facilities associated with construction of a marina on 14 December 2004. Survey results indicated that the proposed project will have no effect on significant archaeological resources. No additional investigations are recommended. Georgia Department of Natural Resources plans to construct dock facilities and land-based amenities at the Resort at Lake Blackshear, located within Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park (Figure 1). The arrow in the SW corner of Figure 1 indicates the location of the project. Figure 2 is a plan of the proposed project, which will include a dock with boat slips, shore facilities, connecting walkways, and a new access road.
