New South Associates conducted Phase I archaeological survey along a 2.56-mile long corridor extending between McDonough and Panhandle Roads in Clayton County, Georgia. The corridor consists of widening the existing Tara Road from a two-lane to a three-lane road within a right-of-way of between 60 and 80 feet. The survey was accomplished by a two-person crew. No new archaeological sites were located, but an isolated find, consisting of a sherd of plain cream-colored ware and a fragment of a pharmaceutical bottle, was located. The potential for additional archaeological features, related to the isolated find or within the corridor in general, is unlikely. Thus, no further study of the Tara Road corridor is recommended.
