Five upland archaeological sites located in the Catfish Recreation Area adjacent to Clarks Hill Lake, McCormick County, South Carolina were intensively surveyed and tested to determine each site's eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Archaeological investigations and the subsequent assessment of the data resulted in the assessment that two sites are eligible for listing in the National Register. These sites are the multicomponent Middle Archaic period and middle to late nineteenth century historic site FSMC2~ and the multicomponent Middle Archaic and early nineteenth century to early twentieth century historic site, FSMC37. It is recommended that these sites are eligible for listing in the National Register. Sites assessed as lacking the potential to yield significant research data and, therefore, not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places are Late Archaic period encampment site FSMC28 and two cairn sites, FSMC14 and FSMC31. Although FSMC14 is not eligible for listing in the National Register, it is recommended that avoidance and preservation be considered.
