Abstract

Under a continuing services contract with the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, Panamerican Consultants, Inc. (PCI) conducted an intensive archaeological survey of 2,810 acres within selected areas of land management training areas K9, K 14, and K22, Fort Benning, Georgia. This work was undertaken in compliance with Section 1 10 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1996. A total of 127 archaeological loci (74 sites and 53 isolated finds) were identified during the project. One site (9CE46), a previously recorded site, is considered eligible for inclusion in the NRHP. The NRHP status of 13 sites (9CE16, 9CE2102, 9CE2109, 9CE2113, 9CE2123, 9CE2092, 9CE2133, 9CE2147, 9CE2183, 9CE2194, 9CE2200, 9CE2201, and 9CE2202) was deemed indeterminate, while the other 113 sites were determined to be ineligible for NRHP inclusion. Protective measures are recommended for the sites recommended both eligible and indeterminate.
