Abstract

The project is located approximately seven miles north of Fitzgerald, Georgia. The project would begin approximately 900 feet southeast of Little House Creek, and end approximately 1,150 feet northwest of Little House Creek. The project would be approximately 2,050 feet long (0.39 mile). The proposed project would replace the existing bridge with a 40-foot wide and 110-foot long bridge on existing alignment. Although the proposed bridge would be shorter than the existing bridge, it would satisfy hydraulic design criteria and clear span the creek without requiring intermediate bents within the stream. A longer bridge would include bents in the stream, which would create scouring, and additional stream impacts. The existing bridge would be removed prior to construction, and not destroyed on site. The bridge would accommodate two 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot shoulders. The proposed roadway approaches would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes with eight-foot shoulders, two feet of which would be paved. The proposed right-of-way would be 155 feet. During construction, traffic would be directed to an on-site detour located west of the existing bridge. The detour bridge would be constructed 60 feet west of the centerline of the existing bridge. The detour roadway and bridge would be removed at the completion of the project. West of the creek, 125 feet of additional ROW has been added to the south side of SR 90, and 75 feet has been added to the north side of SR 90. Approximately 5 feet has been added to the easement south of SR 90, and an additional easement has been added on the north side of the road approximately 450 feet west of the bridge.
