Abstract

A short form for negative findings for a Phase I Archaeological Survey of the Intersection of Dallas Highway and Barrett Parkway, Cobb County, Georgia. The project is located on the Marietta Quadrangle. The project consists of proposed improvements to the intersection of Dallas Highway (SR120) and Ernest Barrett Parkway. A right turn lane would be added to Barrett Parkway southbound. Additionally, the westbound and northbound left turn bays would be reorganized to create a second left turn lane. There are four previous sites. Site 9Co429 was discovered on a survey by Debbie Wallsmith of New South Associates, Inc. The site is located just north of SR20 in the floodplain of Mud Creek. It consisted of a Civil War era artifact scatter. The site's National Register of Historic Places status is currently unknown. Site 9Co448 was also discovered by Debbie Wallsmith of New South Associates, Inc. The site is located south of Burnt Hickory Road on a isolated knoll overlooking Noses Creek. It consisted of a Late Archaic or Mississippian lithic scatter. The site's National Register status is unknown. Site 9Co558 was discovered by Chad Bradley of Southeastern Archaeological Services, Inc. The site is located southeast of John Ward Road south of the intersection of Cheatham Drive. It consisted of an early twentieth century refuse dump. The site was eroded and disturbed and is considered ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Site 9Co600 was a site number recently ascribed to the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield located east of the project area. This site consists of a large tract of land that was the site of many military engagements during the Civil War, and it consist of a National Historic Landmark considered eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
