Abstract

Archaeological Assessment of Project NHS-0005-00(945), Fulton County. The proposed project would. introduce a median and turn lane along 14th Street from Spring Street to West Peachtree Street in the city of Atlanta. An eastbound left turn lane would be constructed on 14th Street at West Peachtree Street for turning movements to-the north. Right-of-way requirements would be held to a minimum between Spring Street and West Peachtree Street with a minimum 7 ft. raised median and a 15 ft. sidewalk. The proposed project's area of potential effect (APE) falls within an area that has been previously cleared for archaeological resources. The previously cleared project, referred to as the Atlantic Steel Redevelopment Project, was subject to archaeological survey in 1999 as part of GDOT- project NH-7141-00(900) [PI No. 714190;HP990810.00]. The results of the 1999 survey indicated that no archaeological resources on or potentially eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places were located in the current project's (note above) APE. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description has been previously conducted along the entire length of the project corridor.
