Abstract

This document is an addendum to an Archaeological Survey of the Proposed Lewis Road Improvements Project Area, Cobb County, Georgia, the Austell quad. Original: the proposed project would consist of roadway improvements to Lewis Road in the city of Powder Springs. The proposed would widen the existing two-lane Lewis Road from Oglesby Road to the Norfolk Southern Railway to include a 15-foot landscaped center median, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, curb and gutter drainage, and other transportation enhancements. The proposed right-of-way would be 100 feet. The intersection of Lewis Road and Oglesby Road would be realigned to eliminate an existing dangerous curve in Lewis Road as it approaches Oglesby Road. The realigned intersection would be constructed on new alignment to the east of Lewis Road. The existing bridge over Powder Springs Creek would be replaced with a wider structure. The existing at-grade railroad crossing would be replaced with a new overpass. North of the railroad, Lewis Road would be extended on new alignment between the railroad and Butner Street and tie into Marietta Street directly. There were negative findings in the further survey of the area. There were also three shovel test performed with negative findings.
