Abstract

The proposed project would consist of improvements to the intersection of Fairview Road and Thurman Road in Henry County. Thurman and Fairview Roads are two-lane urban facilities that intersect at the northern terminus of Thurman Road and form a "T" intersection. Due to the high volumes of traffic at this intersection, the proposed project would widen Thurman Road to add a right turn lane, and would widen Fairview Road to include a left turn lane for the east approach and a right turn lane for the west approach. A traffic signal also would be provided at the improved intersection. The proposed typical section along Thurman Road would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes and one 12-foot right turn lane with 8-foot shoulders (2-foot paved and 6-foot grassed). The proposed typical section along Fairview Road would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes, one 12-foot left turn lane and one 12-foot right turn lane with 8-foot shoulders (2-foot paved and 6-foot grassed). In some locations, an alternate 12-foot shoulder with curb and gutter would be used to minimize damage to existing development. Existing right-of-way along both roadways is approximately 80 feet. Right-of-way acquisition would be required along both roadways. There were negative findings.
