Abstract

New South Associates, Inc. has completed a Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed Brunswick Rail Connector in Glynn County, Georgia. The proposed project involves construction of a 1-mile long rail line connecting the existing CSXT Mainline track with the existing Norfolk Southern Mainline track near Southern Junction. This archaeological survey covered an area measuring approximately 6.1 acres. Pedestrian reconnaissance and systematic shovel testing of the proposed rail connector indicated that it crosses wetland and drained swamp. These areas would have been unsuitable for prehistoric and historic settlement except for transient activities. The survey did not identify any archaeological resources in the project corridor. Therefore, no further cultural resources investigations are recommended for this project.
