Abstract

In late March, 2005 Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., conducted a Phase I archeological survey of the proposed 6.73 ac East Hall 230/25 kV substation in eastern Hall County. The goal of the survey was to locate and evaluate archeological sites within the area of potential effect for the proposed project, so that potential effects to those resources could be evaluated in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The survey was conducted for the Georgia Transmission Corporation through the firm of Jordan, Jones and Goulding, Inc. The project area consists mainly of cow pasture, but old agricultural terraces are present. A total of 14 shovel tests were excavated. No archeological sites or isolated artifacts were located. Archival research showed that no historic period structures or previously recorded archeological sites were known for the project area. Because no significant cultural resources are present, we recommend that the project be allowed to proceed.
