Abstract

The proposed project would reconstruct the existing bridge on Grimes Bridge Road over Big Creek on the existing alignment. The skewed T-intersection of Grimes Bridge Road and Oxbo Road would be realigned approximately 120 feet south of the current intersection to form a 90 degree intersection over Big Creek utilizing a T-bridge formation. The proposed project would begin approximately 550 feet south of the center of the existing bridge and would end approximately 720 feet north of the center of the existing bridge on Grimes Bridge Road. The project would begin approximately 595 feet west of Grimes Bridge Road on Oxbo Road. The project length would be approximately 1270 feet (0.24 mile) on Grimes Bridge Road and 595 feet (0.11 mile) on Oxbo Road. The existing Grimes Bridge Road typical section is an urban section with two 12-foot lanes with curb and gutter and a 4-foot sidewalk on the west side of the road. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is approximately 62 feet. The existing Oxbo Road typical section is an urban section with two 12-foot lanes with curb and gutter and a 4-foot sidewalk on the south side of the road. The existing ROW is approximately 62 feet in width. The typical existing bridge section is two 12-foot lanes with no shoulders, sidewalks, or recovery areas. The proposed typical section of Grimes Bridge Road would be an urban section with two 12-foot lanes with curb and gutter and an additional left turn lane at the Oxbo Road Intersection. Grimes Bridge Road would have 5-foot to 8-foot sidewalks on both sides of the road. Proposed ROW varies from 60 feet to 90 feet in width. Oxbo Road would be an urban section with two 12-foot lanes with curb and gutter and an additional left turn lane at the Grimes Bridge Road intersection. Oxbo Road will have 5-foot to 8-foot wide sidewalks on both sides of the road. The proposed ROW for Oxbo Road varies from 60 feet to 180 feet in width. The typical proposed bridge section would be composed of a T bridge formation, approximately 175 feet long on Grimes Bridge Road and 56 feet wide. There would be three 12-foot lanes to accommodate the new turning lane. All sidewalks would be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Permanent easement for the construction and maintenance of slopes would be required. The permanent easements would be up to 40 feet in width along both sides of Grimes Bridge Road. Permanent easements varying five feet to 50 feet in width would be required along both sides of Oxbo Road. Traffic would be routed to an offsite detour using South Atlanta Street and Norcross Street during construction.
