Abstract

In October, 1996, Southern Research entered into a continuing services contract with the Fort Benning Military Reservation to provide archaeological services. This report, which is one of series of reports generated under this contract, describes the results of intensive archaeological survey of 748 acres (303 ha) in land management compartment F-05 in Chattahoochee County, Georgia (Figure I-1). Fieldwork and laboratory analysis of this compartment was completed in 1997. The purpose of the survey was to identify all cultural resources in the compartment in accordance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, and to identify any archaeological sites that are potentially eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Previous studies demonstrated the potential for many unrecorded archaeological sites in the project area. Twelve sites were identified that may be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Protective measures are recommended for these sites.
