Abstract

Intensive archaeological survey was conducted by Southern Research from 1998 to 2000 in land management Compartment E-04, which is located in Chattahoochee County, Georgia. This work was done for the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, in compliance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966. The survey of Compartment E-04 identified 15 archaeological loci (12 sites and 3 isolated finds). Five additional sites in the compartment were previously recorded by Resource Analysts and others, which includes two sites (9Ce99 and 9Ce100) that were considered eligible for listing in the NRHP (Kohler et al. 1980). Five sites that were examined by the present study in this compartment may be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Protective measures are recommended for these potentially eligible sites.
