A Cultural Resources Survey of Compartments K-18 Fort Benning Military Reservation Chattahoochee County, Georgia

Abstract

Intensive archaeological survey was conducted by Southern Research from 1998 through 2000 in land management Compartment K-18, which are located in Chattahoochee County, Georgia. This work was done for the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, in compliance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966. Compartment K-18 contains 973 acres (394 ha), which includes 55 previously surveyed acres (22 ha) and 918 acres (372 ha) that were examined in the present study. A total of 19 archaeological loci (12 sites and 7 isolated finds) was identified in Compartment K-18 by the present study. Six sites in this compartment may be eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Protective measures are recommended for these potentially eligible sites.
