Abstract

Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted an archaeological survey in Chattahoochee County, Georgia. The survey area encompasses approximately 100 acres (40 hectares) within the boundary of Fort Benning Military Reservation. The study area is divided into two tracts and is located in the Harmony Church Community area. Archival research compiled data about the history of the Harmony Church area and the nature of the military use of the tracts examined. Background research revealed that the northernmost tract (Tract II) was surveyed by Poplin (1987); no archaeological sites were identified. This tract was revisited to photo-document present conditions. Brockington and Associates intensively examined the southern tract (Tract I); no archaeological sites were recorded in this tract. Because no significant cultural resources were identified in the study tracts, clearance to construct the DS/GS Consolidated Field Maintenance Facility and Tactical Vehicle Maintenance Shop is recommended.
