Abstract

Intensive archaeological survey was conducted by Southern Research from 1998 to 2000 in land management Compartment K-03, which is located in Muscogee County, Georgia. This work was done for the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, in compliance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NH PA) of 1966. Compartment K-03 contains 1,015 acres (411 ha), of which 881 acres (357 ha) were examined in the present study. A total of 38 archaeological loci (34 sites and 4 isolated finds) was identified. Two of these sites were previously recorded. Thirteen sites in this compartment that were examined by the present study may be eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Protective measures are recommended for these potentially eligible sites. One other previously recorded site (9Me74) is considered potentially eligible for listing in the NRHP, but it was not revisited in the present study.
