A Cultural Resources Survey of Compartment K-17 Fort Benning Military Reservation Chattahoochee County, Georgia

Abstract

Intensive archaeological survey was conducted by Southern Research in 1998 and 1999 in land management Compartment K-17, which is located in Chattahoochee County, Georgia. This work was done for the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, in compliance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966. A total of 1285 acres (520 ha) was examined. A total of 39 archaeological loci (29 sites and 10 isolated finds) was identified in Compartment K-17. Fourteen sites in this compartment may be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Protective measures are recommended for these potentially eligible sites.
