Abstract

This project proposes to reconstruct and relocate a portion of SR 1/US 27 from CR 329 to Taylor Ridge, then on new location to existing SR 1/US 27 near East Trion. Concurrence was originally received in 1996, then received again in 1999 for a reevaluation. The original project remains the same except for the following: from the beginning of the project along the existing SR 1/US 27 the widening has shifted from the north side of SR 1/US 27 to the south side of SR 1/US 27. The existing right-of-way on SR 1/US 27 varies from approximately 260' to 130'. New right-of-way is required along SR 1/US 27 and varies in width from approximately 15' to 370'. Total project length for this reevaluation is approximately 2.23 miles. An archeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
