Abstract

Project STP-165-1(60) would widen Snapfinger Road in DeKalb County, Georgia. The project was initially surveyed by Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. in August of 2000. (HP# HP001017-010), Since that time, one intersection improvement has been added at Snapfinger Lake Drive aid casements of various sizes have also been added throughout the corridor, The newly aligned intersection will begin approximately 30. feet north of the current Snapfinger Lake Drive/Snapfinger Road intersection. The new location right-of-way will tie into the existing Snapfinger Lake Drive approximately 700 feet west of the intersection. The required right-of-way for Snapfinger Lake Drive is 40 feet. The eas eats along the corridor vary in size with a maximum of 70 feet and follow along almost the entirety of the mainline widening on both sides. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation wi DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration a d State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological. surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway project acts and are followed during the Initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within e project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the. project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the p cot conforms to that described above.
