This GDOT archaeological report short form for negative findings for the Phase I Archaeological Survey for the Proposed Noonday Creek Multi-Use Trail, Cobb County, Georgia conducted by Edwards-Pitman Environmental, Inc. The proposed project extends from the intersection of Cobb and Barrett Parkways, roughly parallel to Noonday Creek, and terminates at Bells Ferry Road. Approximately 900 ft west of Bells Ferry Road, the APE converges with an existing sewer corridor. The APE generally follows the sewer line for the remainder of the project corridor adjacent to Noonday Creek, The proposed trail corridor diverges from the existing sewer line where Noonday Creek meets Barrett Lakes Boulevard. The APE follows the existing road corridor south to Cobb Circle, runs along Cobb Circle, and then extends west along Vaughn Road. Approximately 2,000 ft north of the intersection of Vaughn and Roberts Road, the proposed trail extends west for roughly 400 ft across a rocky knoll and an active floodplain, where it then turns south to follow Noonday Creek and intersect with the existing Cobb Parkway Corridor. The length of the proposed trail is roughly 4.5 miles. The entire project area was surveyed by visual inspection and recorded with digital media. Shovel tests were excavated judgmentally in undisturbed areas. Shovel tests were not excavated in areas of excessive slope or in inundated areas. A total of 22 shovel tests were excavated- all were negative.
