Abstract

There are 2 proposed improvement alternatives for this project. The existing intersection has a four-way approach and is STOP sign controlled. Both Bethany Road and Providence Road are 2 lane facilities with 12-foot lanes and rural shoulders of variable width. Currently, each approach is only one lane and facilitates all left turn, through movements, and right turns. Existing right-of-way is approximately 60 feet wide along both the Bethany and Providence Road corridors. The primary alternative for the proposed improvements involves a slight southerly realignment of Bethany Road and an expansion of all four approaches to include a left turn, through and right turn lane. The existing signal would be upgraded to include left turn phasing where appropriate. Rural shoulders of an approximate width of twelve feet would be used. The secondary alternative to this project is a roundabout design. The proposed alternatives vary in the amount of required ROW needed.
