Abstract

The proposed project consists of three segments with the purpose of widening and reconstructing State Route (SR) 140 between SR 53 and SR 3. The project numbers are: STP-0004-00(915), STP-019-1(15), and BHF-019-1(16); P.I. #s are 0004915, 621500, and 621505. The project corridor lies within Bartow and Floyd counties. The existing design features a typical section of two 12-foot (ft) lanes with variable width shoulders. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is approximately 80 ft to 120 ft. Major structures include a 160-ft by 28-ft concrete and steel bridge over Oothkalooga Creek with a sufficiency rating of 68.21. A 114-ft by 28-ft concrete and steel bridge over the CSX Railroad (with a sufficiency rating of 80.00) and a triple 10-x-10 ft concrete box culvert at Stream 5 also are present along the project corridor. The proposed project would widen SR 140 from two to four lanes in Bartow and Floyd counties. The project will begin at the intersection of SR 140 and SR 53 in Floyd County and continue east on SR 140 to SR 3/US 41 in Bartow County. The total length of the project would be approximately 37,488 ft (7.1 miles), beginning at M.P. 4.77 in Floyd County and extending to M.P. 5.38 in Bartow County. STP-0004-00(915) ( that is, Unit 915) will begin at the intersection of SR 140 and SR 53 and will continue east on SR 140 to a point approximately 0.3 miles west of Oothkalooga Creek, for a segment length of approximately 6.2 miles. The roadway will be widened from two to four lanes with a 44-ft grassed median, transitioning to- an urban section with four lanes and a 20-ft raised concrete median at the eastern end of the segment. STP-0191(15) (that is, Unit 15) consists of the widening of SR 140 from two to four lanes, beginning at a point 0.3 miles west of Oothkalooga Creek and continuing east on SR 140 to the intersection of SR 140 and SR 3/US 41. The project length for Unit 15 is approximately 0.9 miles. BHF-019-1(16) (that is, Unit 16), the bridge replacements over Oothkalooga Creek, will be contained in and be an exception to Unit 15 of the project. The bridges over Oothkalooga Creek and the CSX Railroad will be in an urban section with four roadway lanes and a 20-ft raised median.
