Abstract

The proposed project would construct a 10' x 8' precast concrete barrel on the south side of the existing double 9' x 8' reinforced concrete box culvert at Harman Canal on SR 204/Abercorn Street to improve the drainage capacity of the structure. The existing roadway consists of six 12 foot lanes with a 20 foot raised grass median, 12 foot shoulders, and 30 inches of curb and gutter on both sides of the roadway on 130 feet of existing right-of-way. An additional 30 feet of right-of-way would be required. The total length of the project would be 0.419 mile. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
