Abstract

An archeological survey was conducted for a proposed two-lane road to be constructed on new location in the northwest portion of Douglas. The road will be about 2.3 km (1.4 mi) long and between 24 and 30 m (80 and 100 ft) wide. It traverses mostly wooded terrain and crosses Twenty Mile Creek. The Georgia Archeological Site Files show that no sites have been recorded in the project area. The project corridor was archeologically surveyed on April 1 and 2, 1999, and one site, 9CF254, was recorded. This is a twentieth century farm complex, consisting of a razed (or moved) house, a collapsed barn and a small outbuilding. Because it is recent and in poor condition, we recommend that site 9CF254 is not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. In regard to cultural resources, we recommend that the project be given clearance to proceed.
