Abstract

During the period of May 1-4, 2006, R. S. Webb & Associates conducted a Phase I cultural resources survey of the 125 acre (50.6 hectare) Huber-Youmans Tract in Emanuel County, Georgia. The project area is located approximately 7.0 kilometers (km) south of Swainsboro, Georgia and 1.2 km northeast of Nunez, Georgia. The project area is roughly bisected by New Hope Church Road. One National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligible resource is located within the project area. The Thomas N. Youmans House Complex is associated with archeological Site 9EM118. The Thomas N. Youmans House Complex, a late I9`h century resource was documented in a previous study (Bowen 2006). Three historic archeological sites (9EM118, 9EM119, and 9EM120) and one historic isolated find were identified in the project area as a result of the survey efforts. These resources are recommended ineligible for the NRHP. No buildings, structures, or objects over 50 years old other than the Thomas N. Youmans House Complex were identified within the Area of Potential Effects of the proposed undertaking. No additional cultural resources work is recommended for the proposed Huber-Youmans Tract.
