Abstract

The proposed project would construct sidewalks along three streets within the City of Chamblee, Georgia adjacent to the Chamblee MARTA Station. The three streets included in this project are Miller Drive, Malone Drive, and Watkins Avenue. The existing condition on Miller Drive consists of a 40-foot asphalt road accommodating two travel lanes and on-street parking. There are granite curbs and 6-foot sidewalks on the north side of the street. The existing right-of-way is 60 feet. The proposed project would construct new 2-foot wide curb and gutter, a five-foot to seven-foot landscape strip, a five-foot sidewalk, and 2-foot shoulder on both sides of the street. The roadway typical section would consist of two 11-foot lanes with sections of eight-foot wide street side parking. The project would begin at the intersection of Miller Drive with Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and extend southward for 0.24 mile. The remaining portion of Miller Drive to the intersection with Peachtree Road is currently under construction by private developers, and would include sidewalk typical sections that match the remainder of the street. The existing condition on Malone Drive consists of a 30-foot asphalt road accommodating two travel lanes. There are granite curbs on both sides of the street. The existing right-of-way is 60 feet. The proposed project would construct new two-foot wide curb and gutter, a five-foot to seven-foot landscape strip, a five-foot sidewalk, and two-foot shoulder on both sides of the street. The roadway typical section would consist of two 11-foot lanes with sections of eight-foot wide street side parking. The project would begin at the intersection of Malone Drive with Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and end at the intersection with Peachtree Road, for a total distance of 0.3 mile. Some portions of Malone Drive are currently under construction by private developers, and would include sidewalk typical sections that match the remainder of the street. The existing condition on Watkins Avenue consists of a 24 to 27-foot asphalt road accommodating two travel lanes and on-street parking. There are existing curb and gutter on both sides of the street. The existing right-of-way is 50 feet. The proposed project would construct new two-foot wide curb and gutter, a five-foot landscape strip, a five-foot sidewalk, and two-foot shoulder on both sides of the street. The roadway typical section would consist of two 11-foot lanes. The project would begin at the intersection of Watkins Avenue with New Peachtree Road and extend for 0.15 mile to the intersection of Chamblee Tucker Road. All sidewalks would be Americans With Disabilities (ADA) compliant, and be constructed within existing right-of-way. Some sections of the road would contain street side parking on both sides. In the areas with street side parking the landscape strip between the new curbs and the sidewalk would be reduced to five feet to ensure that the project is constructed within the existing right-of-way. Some temporary easement may be required to construct sidewalks.
