Abstract

Project Description: Phase I Archaeological Survey of Improvements to Salem Road & Associated Intersections, Newton & Rockdale Counties, GA: The proposed project has two components. The first component extends north on Salem Road from approximately 1,500 feet south of Brown Bridge Road to Flat Shoals Road. This section of roadway would be widened from two-lanes to 6-lanes with turn lanes at key intersections. The second component of the project extends north on Salem Road from Flat Shoals Road to 1-20. The section of roadway would be widened from the existing five-lanes to a six-lane configuration. The project would also include paved roadway shoulders and sidewalks. The purpose of the proposed project is to provide the additional capacity needed to accommodate the projected number of trips that are likely to use this roadway facility for either local activity or as a travel corridor to access 1-20. The proposed project is approximately 23,760 feet (4.5 miles) long. The existing right-of-way is approximately 80 feet wide and the proposed right-of-way would be approximately 132 feet wide.
