Abstract

Project CSMPL-0008-00(276) Robert Miller Jr. Road (CR 1500) Chatham County begins at Gulfstream Road (CR 739) and ends at mile point 0.540 for a distance of 0.54 mile. The proposed project would widen the existing two lane roadway to a two lane facility with auxiliary left turn lanes to access the Gulfstream Aircraft Factory and to access Gulfstream Road; a traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Robert Miller Jr. Road and Gulfstream Road. Based on the traffic volumes obtained and the extreme volume of left turns, it is recommended that Robert Miller Jr. Road be widened to add auxiliary left turn lanes at the Gulfstream Aircraft Factory Entrance and at the intersection with Gulfstream Road. It is also recommended that a protected left turn signal be installed at the intersection of Robert Miller Jr. Road and Gulfstream Road to alleviate the projected high volume on Robert Miller Jr. Road. The proposed 5 lane section of roadway will be constructed on the same alignment as the existing roadway and is to be constructed while maintaining traffic by staging the construction. An off-site detour route will not be needed for this project. The right-of-way required along the project corridor is 75 feet on either side of the centerline along Gulfstream Road. The APE for the project includes everything within the proposed construction project length and within the maximum extent of the existing and required right-of-way as described above.
