Abstract

Original: The proposed bridge would be constructed east of the existing bridge, at a centerline-to-centerline off-set distance of approx. 17 ft. The bridge would be approx. 762 ft long and 88 ft wide and include four 12-ft travel lanes separated by a 20-ft flush median, two 8-ft sidewalks, and two 2-ft gutters. The bridge would also be raised approx. 8.5 ft to meet vertical clearance requirements over the railroad tracks. The proposed typical roadway section would be four 12-ft travel lanes separated by a 20-ft flush median, urban shoulders with curb and gutter, and 7-ft sidewalks. The proposed roadway widening would make SR 280 four lanes throughout the area. The proposed ROW would be a maximum of 315 ft. Traffic would be maintained on the existing and new bridge via phased construction. The project also involves the construction of approx. 1,310 linear ft of retaining wall at various locations along the east and west sides of SR 280. See separate sheet for redesigned project descriptions. Changes: The total area of required right-of-way and easement has been reduced or converted to temporary easement. At the time of the first reevaluation, the proposed project would have required 3.56 acres of right-of-way and 0.95 acre permanent easement. The design refinements have reduced the required right-of-way to 3.32 acres. No permanent easement would be required, though approximately 0.49 acre temporary construction easement and 0.96 acre of temporary driveway easement would be required. In addition, approximately 0.49 acre of existing GDOT right-of-way would be deeded to the cemetery. A longitudinal drainage system has been added to the bridge to prevent runoff from flowing directly into the Chattahoochee River. Orange barrier fencing has been added to the plans to protect Waters of the US. A 70-foot long southbound deceleration lane has been added beginning approximately 1,560 feet south of the northern terminus. Construction of the deceleration lane would not require additional right-of-way. The reconstruction of a driveway on the west side of SR 280 approximately 500 feet south of the Chattahoochee River would require approximately 3,560 square feet (0.08 acre) of additional temporary driveway easement.
