Abstract

During the week of May 8, 2000, R.S. Webb & Associates conducted a Phase I cultural resources survey of an additional 40.5-hectare tract for the proposed Richard B. Russell State Park Golf Course Site in Elbert County, Georgia. The project area is located within the Richard B. Russell State Park, 13 kilometers northeast of the city of Elberton. The Area of Potential Effects (APE) was defined as the footprint of the proposed golf course. A total of five archeological sites and one isolated rock pile were identified within the project area during the current field survey. Four of these sites had been previously recorded. None of the five identified sites or the isolated rock pile are considered potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, further investigation of these cultural resources is not warranted.
