Abstract

This project, Phase I Archaeological Survey for the Proposed Improvements to Godby Road. Clayton County, Georgia, GDOT Project CSSTP-0006-00 (860). P.I. 0006860, is located in the northwestern corner of Clayton County, beginning at the intersection of Godby Road and Southampton Road and ending at the intersection of Godby Road and S.R. 314/West Fayetteville Road. This project will consist of widening the existing two-lane roadway to a four lane divided roadway with a 20-foot median and 12-foot shoulder on both north and south sides of the road, including 2.5-foot curb and gutter, 2-foot strip, of grass, 5-foot sidewalks and 2.5foot outer grass strip. The existing intersection of Southampton Road and Norman Boulevard at Godby Road will be realigned. The signal at the realigned intersection will be upgraded. Gravity walls will be considered to reduce impacts to adjacent properties in the area of all widening. The total project length is approximate 3100 feet, of which an 1800-feet section of Godby is in the city of College Park and the remaining 1300-feet portion is in Clayton County. The existing right-of-way is approximately 50 feet. The proposed right-of-way would be approximately 100 feet. Additional temporary construction easement would be required for driveway and slope construction.
