Abstract

SOS Development, LLC (SOS) contracted TRC to conduct a Phase II archaeological testing program at three sites in order to determine their eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The sites had been identified in a Phase I cultural resource survey of a proposed residential development on Lake Sinclair in Hancock County, Georgia. This work was carried out to assist SOS comply with Section 106 of the National Preservation Act, as amended. The Phase II testing was carried out August 20-24, 2007. This work included a combination of 1 1-m test units and mechanical stripping. The location of excavation and trench units was based on the results of Phase I shovel testing and the goal of investigating the entire study area. As a result of the testing program the three sites are recommended ineligible for the NRHP. One historic architectural resource that had previously gone unobserved was identified during the course of Phase II testing a site. A new site form indicating a the new findings has been submitted to the Georgia Archaeological Site File. Based on the findings of testing at the sites, no further archaeological investigations are recommended.
